New Shooter Classes

New shooter classes are for first time firearms owners, or if you just purchased a new firearm and want to gain confidence shooting your new gun. The following concepts will be covered and demonstrated with ample time for shooter practice.

  • Firearm Safety
  • Range Safety
  • Loading and Unloading
  • Proper grip and stance
  • Making accurate shots
  • Beginner shooter drills

There will be plenty of time to answer and follow up on questions for each shooter. While this class can have from 5 to 10 shooters, each shooter will get individualized assistance from one or more instructors.

Skill Builder Classes

Skill Builder classes are for rifle and pistol shooters that are comfortable loading and firing their firearm, but are looking for new skills to improve accuracy and build shooter confidence to begin shooting sports. The following concepts will be covered and demonstrated with ample time for shooter practice.

  • Range and Firearm Safety
  • Equipment Discussion (as needed)
  • Proper grip and stance
  • Target acquisition
  • Trigger control
  • Loading, unloading, and clearing malfunctions
  • "Tactical" vs "Emergency" Reloading
  • Making accurate shots and improving shot placement
  • Timed and un-timed shooting drills

Pistol classes may include:

  • Drawing from Holster
  • Strong-hand, Weak-hand and One-hand practice
  • Pistol specific drills

Rifle classes may include:

  • Rifle Ready Positions
  • Transitioning from Rifle to Pistol
  • Tactical and Emergency Reloads

There will be plenty of time to answer and follow up on questions for each shooter. While this class can have 5 to 10 shooters, each shooter will get individualized assistance from one or more instructors.

NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

This Instructor-led class takes place in-person in a traditional classroom and range environment. This course may be completed in a single day format or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction.

Course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

A valid NY State PISTOL LICENSE is REQUIRD to take this class!

All Pistol students must be US Citizens at be at least 21 years old. Valid NY State Pistol License required for all pistol courses. You will be asked to show your valid NYS pistol license at any pistol courses.

This course is inclusive of classroom time, range time, all training materials, Certified Instructors & targets.

Please bring the following items:
Your valid NY State Pistol License
A safe, functioning and reliable pistol that is registered in the State of New York.

Calibers permitted are .22lr, .380, 9mm, 38 Special, 40mm and 45ACP. (no magnum calibers)

Eye and ear protection.
Minimum of 200 rounds of factory ammunition. 

Bring a bag lunch.
