NRA CCW for NY 
18 HOURS NYS Concealed Carry Firearm Safety Training

This class meets and exceeds the NYS Concealed Carry Improvement Act Training Requirements.  

The NYS Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA) specifically authorizes NRA Certified Instructors to teach the required curriculum.

Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive the necessary documents for their county and an NRA CCW Certificate.

This course satisfies the NYS requirement for concealed carry licensing. The following concepts will be covered and demonstrated. This course is based on the NRA CCW course and includes the required NYS non-NRA legal and state shooting requirements.

The NRA CCW course teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense and satisfies the MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR LIVE-FIRE TRAINING. This instructor-led only course gives you direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor. Sixteen hours of in person classroom instruction and two hours of live-fire instruction will include:

  • General firearm safety
  • Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense
  • Ammunition Knowledge and Selection
  • Drawing from Concealment
  • Loading and Stoppage Remediation
  • Mindset, Responding to an Attack and the Aftermath
  • Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment
  • Firearm cleaning and maintenance
  • Range safety rules
  • Firearm safe storage requirements
  • State and federal gun laws
  • Concealed carry situational awareness of surroundings, including firearm display and concealment
  • Conflict de-escalation tactics
  • Adverse effects of alcohol and drug use as it pertains to firearm safety
  • Best practices when encountering law enforcement
  • The statutorily defined sensitive places listed in Penal Law § 265.01-e and the restrictions on firearm possession in restricted places under Penal Law § 265.01- d.
  • Conflict management
  • Use of deadly physical force
  • Suicide prevention
  • Basic principles of marksmanship, including stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, breathing, and trigger control.
  • Each student must demonstrate proficiency by successfully completing a live-fire assessment.

Following completion of the 16-hour in-person classroom instruction each student must demonstrate proficiency by achieving a minimum correct answer score of 80% on a written test covering the course curriculum. All participants must be present for the full 16 hour classroom course in person and complete the and 2 hour live fire session. Participation does not guarantee a certificate of completion. Failure of any one part will require the participant to re-register and pay to retake the class.

Students will receive reference books, take an NRA CCW Student Examination for each chapter and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

There will be plenty of time to answer and follow up on questions for each participant. You will get individualized assistance from one or more instructors.

Payment is due in full when registering, there are no refunds for cancellations.

LIVE FIRE RANGE - 10/30 5PM - 8PM

REFUND POLICY

All course registrations will be confirmed with a electronic invoice. Each course requires a deposit to reserve your seat in the class. Do to our dedication to maintain small class sizes for the most effective instruction, cancellations have a significant impact. If you need to cancel, and we can refill your seat, we can give you a credit towards a future class within the next twelve (12) months. If your seat can not be filled, we will not be able to issue you a refund or credit. We also maintain the highest levels of safety in our courses and failure to follow instructions, or creating a hazard to yourself or others during a class or on the range, will result in your removal from a course, with no refund or credit. Thank you for understanding.

 

Pistol Licensing Bureau can request a copy of course curriculum and instructor certifications.

  • VALID PHOTO ID (NYS Drivers License or Passport)
  • VALID NYS Pistol License
  • FIREARM (Revolver or Semiautomatic Pistol) - All firearms MUST be brought to class UNLOADED in a separate carrying case. 
    • DO NOT LEAVE FIREARMS IN VEHICLES
  • APPROVED EYE PROTECTION (Over Glasses acceptable)
  • APPROVED  EAR PROTECTION (Electronic recommended)
  • Sturdy Belt (MUST HAVE A BELT)
  • Holster
    • Strong Side
    • Inside or Outside the Waist Band
    • Must cover trigger guard
    • Must have retention (friction, snap or button)
    • Must be designed for your firearm
    • Must be suitable for concealed carry
  • Pants with belt loops (no shorts or sweats)
  • Cover Garment - Long shirt or open front jacket
  • THREE Loading devices (magazines or speed loaders)
  • Pouches for loading devices (belt mounted)
  • 150 Rounds of factory ammunition (RANGE ONLY)
    • NO AMMUNITION PERMITTED IN CLASSROOM
    • SAFE STORAGE WILL BE PROVIDED (if needed)
  • Recommended - HAT with BRIM (baseball hat)
  • FOOD / WATER - Stay hydrated!! Working breaks.
